TIP OF THE MONTH
SEPARATION OF PARENT AND CHILD
A parent may find separation from a child on the first day of school as difficult as it may be for the child to be separated from the parent.
It will be easier if the parent encourages the child in a positive manner.
If the child cries at the moment of separation, he/she will seldom continue for more than a few minutes unless the parent communicates his/her own anxiety.
DO NOT bribe your child with candy or treats if he promises not to cry.
Adjustment periods are normal but they can be made fairly smooth if parents support the child with a positive, firm, and consistent approach.
Remember, it usually takes at least 3 to 4 weeks for a child to adjust. Give the new situation some time and encourage your child.
